Today we celebrate 200 years since Charles Robert Darwin was born.

It’s a day to celebrate (by buying this primate product), but also a reminder that darwinism must die so that evolution may live.

For ze Germans: Zu Charles Darwin’s 200. Geburtstag und dem 150-jährigen Jubiläum der Erstveröffentlichung seines Hauptwerks “Die Entstehung der Arten” widmet sich der ganzjährige Ö1-Programmschwerpunkt “Projekt: Darwin” (sowie mehrere ORF TV-Sendungen) dem Leben des Naturforschers, seinen Theorien und deren bis heute heftig diskutierten Interpretationen.

John Thomas Scopes (August 3, 1900 – October 21, 1970), a teacher in Dayton, Tennessee, was charged on May 5, 1925 with violating Tennessee’s Butler Act, which prohibited the teaching of evolution in Tennessee schools.

For ze Germans: Fällt eine Schildkröte auf den Rücken, hat sie ein Problem: Kopf und Füße baumeln in der Luft. Viele Arten kommen trotzdem wieder auf die Beine.

Es war ein Gespräch mit Spätfolgen. 1995 diskutierten zwei Forscher auf einem Kongress in Hamburg über die besondere Rolle der Zahl 4 in verschiedensten Bereichen der Mathematik. Mehr als zehn Jahre später fand sich Gábor Domokos vor einem großen Terrarium in Budapest wieder. Er untersuchte die Panzer von Schildkröten und legte manche von ihnen auf den Rücken, um zu schauen, ob sich die Tiere wieder auf die richtige Seite drehen können.

The Institute of General Theory is a project of indeterminate duration, for anything from one to an infinite number of participants. It operates in an undefined area, in the grey zone where there is no distinction between fiction and science, art and craft, independent work and self exploitation; between game, experiment and paid work, between experimental and studio space, or between museum and university. The IAT considers itself a laboratory for »omnidisciplinary thought experiments«, the results of which are meticulously documented and recorded in a constantly growing archive.
